The place is grand on a massive scale but is high on the entertainment value as well. Apart from regular Kathakali dances the performances on Sundays are even more special. They involve a combination of excerpts from various art forms such as Kathakali, Theyyam, Mohiniyattam, and Kalaripayattu which is an incredibly famous martial art form birthed in Kerala.
4. Ernakulam Kathakali Club
The Ernakulam Kathakali Club is another popular place to catch a Kathakali performance. The dances/plays are staged all night long and are a treat to watch when visiting on direct flights to Kochi. Leading actors in Kerala perform these once a month and draw large crowds. The venue fluctuates between the Ernakulathappan Hall near the Shiva Temple and the TDM Hall in Ernakulam. 5. Dr. Devan’s Kathakali
One of the oldest tourist Kathakali shows in Kerala, it was named after its founder Dr. Devan. The show begins with a lengthy discourse on philosophy and Indian Mythology, both of which play a major part in Kathakali.
